- “Pride of the Northside” Marching Band
- Rehearses two weeks during the summer, then twice a week after school in the fall. We also perform for Friday football games and select saturday events in our community.
- Drumline
- Jazz Ensemble
- Percussion Ensemble
- Chamber Ensembles
- Symphony Orchestra
All woodwind and brass students are assigned to the Concert Band or Symphonic Band, based on ability level or instrumentation. All Freshman are placed in the concert band. Any freshman that would like to audition into the symphonic band may do so by contacting Mr. Payne, if space is available on your instrument.
Students are encouraged to participate in other school activities and athletics – it is why we set our program up the way we do. Mr. Payne will work with each family and coach/sponsor to work out conflicts. The general rule is: Game/Concert always takes precedence over a practice. When two practices conflict, or two performances conflict, we’ll work it out keeping the best interests of the student in mind.
Summer Obligations and Performances
This summer, the BSHS Bands will conduct several camps. Read below to find out what applies to you:
Marching Band Camp I: June 28 – July 2, 8:30am – 4:30pm @ BSHS
- All members of the “Pride of the Northside” Marching Band will report for Band Camp to learn marching and music fundamentals and prepare for the Lexington 4th of July Festival Performance.
- This camp is required, unless you are participating in GSA/GSP. Families are encouraged to travel/vacation at a different time if possible. If you have already booked a trip, please let Mr. Payne know ASAP.
- July 4th falls on a Sunday. We expect the performance to take place on Friday July 2nd (Evening) or Saturday the 3rd. We will update you once we find out.
- We are planning a normal camp – if COVID restrictions require an alteration of our plans, we will notify you as those details become available. It is our intent to rehearse during this week to prepare for our fall season.
- Cost $25: We are asking each family to contribute to purchase a t-shirt for the performance and help pay for camp supplies/staff.
Symphonic Band/Symphony Orchestra Camp: July 26-30 from 1pm-5pm @ BSHS
- All members of the symphonic band will report for our 1st Symphonic Band/Symphony Orchestra.
- Students will participate in sectionals and full band rehearsals with guest clinicians, as well as perform in a combined symphony orchestra experience with our chamber orchestra.
- We will conclude the week with a performance on Friday evening.
- Attendance is required for these students in order to participate in the symphonic band. Exceptions will only be made for school approved conflicts. Athletes will need to work with Mr. Payne to determine their schedules.
Marching Band Camp II: August 2-6 from 8:30am – 4:30pm @ BSHS
- All students participating in the fall Marching Band are required to attend.
